Proving Your Point

Pre-season is about working on fitness mainly but results are more than welcomed, such as the five-one thumping of AC Milan in America on Sunday!

A chance to impress the boss is also something that some get, it is them down to them to do just that, in many ways you are looking to prove your point, or yourself, to the boss…

Stevan Jovetic, who has filled plenty of column inches this summer with rumour of a City exit, is one such player and his man of the match performance against the Italian outfit has brought more attention to him with him putting himself right into contention for a place in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad this season.

Not that he ever doubted his ability mind, with him happy to repay the faith shown in him.

He told the Mail: ‘I know I’m good, I know I can play there. It was difficult but in that moment you just have to believe in yourself.

‘I spoke with the manager a bit about that when we came back. I have his confidence and I`m going to do everything I can to repay that and show I deserve to play.’

The Montenegro international’s first season at the Etihad was, as we know, seriously impacted by injury with his playing catch-up in pre-season last time round also having an impact in a negative way.

Jovetic is convinced (having ended the season fairly well) this season will be different with it a ‘different story’ and ‘the real Stevan Jovetic’ will be seen.

Lets hope that is the case!

You would think that Jovetic is more likely to be making an impact on the City first-team squad this season than Scott Sinclair, although the winger has been using the US tour to work hard on his fitness and been given plenty of playing time.

Sinclair feels that he is getting ‘back to his best’ and feeling good as he looks to prove his own point at City that he is worthy of his place in the squad.

He told the Manchester Evening News: ‘This is probably one of the best pre-season’s I’ve had the minutes I’m getting now I haven’t had that. I feel great, you can see it in the performances, I’m scoring goals, I’m getting back to my normal self how I was at Swansea.

‘Pre-season is probably the most important for any footballer to get those games and I feel great and hopefully now I can get more minutes and be ready for the season.’

Could Sinclair, heavily expected to move on this summer, still have a City future?
