Report: AC Milan interested in £40m Man City man, deal unlikely due to situation U-turn

|

According to Sky Sports (h/t Milan Live), AC Milan are on the hunt for Simon Kjaer’s replacement and have Nathan Ake on their extensive list of potential transfer targets.

The 26-year-old had an uncertain future at Manchester City when he was being used sparingly a few weeks ago, but Ake looks set to stay after getting regular playing time of late so Milan may have missed the boat.

Ake joined City on a five-year deal from Bournemouth in 2020 and has gone on to make 27 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.

The £40m Netherlands international has struggled for fitness and playing time at the Etihad Stadium but has been injury-free this season and is reaping the rewards.

Ake has been in the matchday squad for every Champions League and Premier League game this campaign, making 14 appearances across the board. He’s started three games in a row for Pep Guardiola too, so it’s unlikely he’d be leaving in January now.

The Rossoneri also have Lille LOSC’s Sven Botman, Manchester United’s Eric Bailly, Chelsea’s Malanga Sarr and Arsenal’s Pablo Marì on their radar, so they have options if their pursuit of Ake is unsuccessful.
