Palmer assisted City’s opening goal in the 14th minute, jinking beyond his marker on the right flank and squaring the ball for Bernardo Silva to finish from close range. He also wrapped up the scoring in the 82nd minute, whipping an effort into the top corner.

The England U21 international has made 43 matchday squads for the first-team, playing 13 times, amassing 511 minutes of football while scoring three goals with one assist. Pep Guardiola plans to use Palmer more now Ferran Torres has joined Barcelona, so it’s clear he has his manager’s trust.

With 20 goals and eight assists from 32 games for the U18s and 19 goals with 10 assists from 27 games for the U23s, it’s no surprise Palmer is shining now. He’s been outstanding for some time and is finally being given the chance to prove it.
