Report: Man City could sign £162k-per-week man with 30 goals and 21 assists for free in 2022

Manchester City aren’t short of forwards with Ferran Torres, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez at their disposal, but Foot Mercato believe they’re interested in another – Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele.

The 24-year-old has an uncertain future at the Camp Nou as his contract is up at the end of the season and he’s yet to put pen to paper on an extension despite weeks of talks.

Dembele could be available on a free transfer in 2022, so City could be landing themselves a bargain. The French international joined Barca on a five-year deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 and has gone on to make 118 appearances in all competitions, scoring 30 goals with 21 assists.

Dembele takes home €10m-a-year (£8.4m-a-year/£162k-per-week) in Spain, so City wouldn’t have a problem paying his wages – he earns less than Kevin De Bruyne, Grealish, Sterling and John Stones. Time will tell if the Premier League defending champions make Dembele a priority, however.

Sergio Aguero’s departure over the summer created a void that Pep Guardiola has yet to fill. City failed to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham and have used Torres & Sterling as makeshift strikers instead. They don’t exactly have a fervent need for Dembele.
