Report: Man City player has ‘uncertain’ future, 27 y/o ‘likely to be sold’ if he rejects new deal

Raheem Sterling has been in fantastic form of late for Manchester City, scoring 13 goals with five assists from 32 games this season, but his future at the Etihad Stadium is ‘uncertain’ due to his contract expiring in less than 18 months, says Graeme Bailey of 90min.

City have tied down new deals for Joao Cancelo, Zach Steffan, Ederson, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Fernandinho, Cole Palmer and Kevin De Bruyne since the beginning of 2021, but they’re making little progress on Sterling.

The 27-year-old rejected a contract extension last year after parting ways with his agent and was reportedly interested in a move abroad if he wasn’t going to be a regular under Pep Guardiola, but he seems happier now and is frequently playing so City are confident he’ll commit his future to the club.

If Sterling doesn’t agree to a new deal in the coming months, Bailey says he’s ‘likely to be sold’, because City won’t want to risk losing him for nothing in 2023. The England international won’t be without his suitors if made available for sale, so the Premier League leaders should make back every penny of the £57m spent back in 2015.
