‘We’ll see this summer’ – Man City player talks about future and says ‘it’s early’ to decide

Yangel Herrera has an uncertain future at Manchester City this summer, as he’s yet to make an appearance for the Sky Blues since his 2017-move from Atletico Venezuela. Fernandinho and Rodri stand in Herrera’s way of getting first-team football, and he admitted in a recent interview with AS that he’s weighing up his options.

Herrera said: “We’ll see in the summer, it’s early to evaluate other possibilities. I have had many team changes. I feel very comfortable (at Espanyol). I hope to have continuity”.

The 24-year-old has been loaned out to New York City (February 2017 – December 2018), SD Huesca (January 2019 – June 2019), Granada CF (July 2019 – June 2021) and Espanyol (August 2021 – present), making a total of 178 appearances in all competitions, scoring 15 goals with 14 assists.

Herrera has two-and-a-half years remaining on his deal at the Etihad Stadium, so he will return to Manchester this summer. But it remains to be seen if he’ll get first-team football under Pep Guardiola next season. The Venezuelan international wants to play for City, but he’s been ignored so far.

Herrera is adept at turning over possession and impressed while out on loan at Espanyol last season, but City were willing to cash in on his signature before, so the writing appears to be on the wall.
