Aymeric Laporte has an uncertain future at Manchester City after struggling for playing time this season and Hector Andreu of Fichajes believes the 28-year-old could be sold if an ‘interesting proposal’ comes City’s way.
The report cited Barcelona as a potential suitor for Laporte, but he won’t be granted a departure before the season comes to a close. There’s no guarantee he will be sold in the summer transfer window either.
Pep Guardiola won’t want to lose a talented defender who can play in multiple roles at the back, but he also doesn’t stop a player from leaving if they request it. So if Laporte is unhappy about the lack of games, like Joao Cancelo was, the club wouldn’t stand in his way seeking opportunities elsewhere.
The Spanish international has made 13 appearances in all competitions this season, just five of which have come in the Premier League. Laporte has started only four of City’s 20 league outings (20%) due to injury woes and him falling down the pecking order, so he might be somewhat frustrated.
Nathan Ake has impressed this season while John Stones and Manuel Akanji both get the nod over Laporte too, so he has a lot of players standing in his way of an opportunity. The 28-year-old should be kept beyond the winter transfer window, but his long-term future is uncertain while he struggles for minutes.
