Stats show 22 y/o is outperforming Walker and Cancelo since leaving Man City [Opinion]

Pedro Porro made a fantastic assist in Sporting’s Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt, bursting past his marker down the right flank and whipping a ball in for Nuno Santos to convert.

It’s his second assist from right-back in five games this season and Porro looks to be thriving since making the permanent switch from Manchester City. The 22-year-old never managed to break into the first-team under Pep Guardiola, but might the Spanish coach regret overlooking him now?

Where will Manchester City finish in the Premier League this season?

Porro joined City from Girona in 2019 for £10.8m but never made an appearance at senior level. Instead, he was loaned out to Real Valladolid (2019/20) and Sporting (2020-2022) until a permanent deal arose.

And while Guardiola overlooked him because he had Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo at right-back, the Spanish international is outperforming the pair on certain occasions.

He’s averaged more tackles (1 per game) and interceptions (1 per game) than Walker (0.3 per game and 0.7 per game). Cancelo averages 1.3 tackles per game and 1 interception per game.

Porro boasts more chances created per game (1) to Walker (0.5) and Cancelo (0.7) and has averaged more dribbles per game (1.5) than Walker (0.5) while tying with Cancelo (1.5).

And finally, Porro has made more accurate crosses per game (1) than Walker (0) and Cancelo (0.5), so he’s proving his worth at Sporting. Guardiola’s loss is Rúben Amorim’s gain.

Stupid article – the Premier League is much harder than the Leagues that Porro plays ( and has played ) in. There is no comparison whatsoever that could be drawn from the statistics generated in two different Leagues.

Crippy scraping the barrel here mate. Pedro looked distressed and got subbed off when City ran amok against Porto last season.
