England suffered a 1-0 defeat to Italy in Friday night’s Nations League clash to be relegated from League A and Kyle Walker was one of many players who underperformed.
The 32-year-old was culpable for Italy’s winning goal and was substituted midway into the second half as he wasn’t laying a finger on Gli Azzurri. Walker allowed an aerial ball to be brought down by Giacomo Raspadori and he allowed him to cut inside and finish into the far corner.

Sky Sports gave Walker a player rating of 6/10 and said he ‘lived dangerously’ in the second half. The 32-year-old scored a 3.7/10 in BBC Sport’s player rating, though he wasn’t the worst ranked. The Guardian gave Walker a player rating of 4/10 and were critical of his mistake in the build up to Italy’s goal.
The Daily Mail gave him a player rating of 5.5/10 and said he’s better as a right-back than third centre-back. The Telegraph gave the England international a player rating of 5/10 and were critical of his poor defending leading to Italy scoring.
Against Italy, Walker played for 71 minutes, had 59 touches, failed to win an aerial duel, completed 88.9% of his 54 passes, made one tackle, failed to make an interception and had one clearance. It’s good he’s recovered from injury, but his performance wasn’t equally as positive.
