Stats show Man City should sell 25 y/o, player not good enough for Guardiola [Opinion]

|

Yangel Herrera has spent the season at Girona, joining the City Football Group on loan from Manchester City in August, but he hasn’t consistently commanded a starting place. And when the 25-year-old has played, the statistics doesn’t exactly prove that he belongs in Pep Guardiola’s side.

City have stiff competition in midfield with Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden providing the creativity while Rodri and Kalvin Phillips are the defensive-minded options, so Herrera stands little chance of breaking into the first-team next season. He should instead be sold.

The Venezuelan international has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals with two assists. Herrera has started 53% of Girona’s games and amassed 45% of all available minutes, so Míchel clearly isn’t fully enamoured with him.

Herrera would be 10th in the City squad for chances created per game (0.6), 11th for successful dribbles (0.3), 9th for shots taken (1.2), 17th for passes made (20), 19th for percentage of passes completed (81.3%), 3rd for tackles (1.5), 16th for interceptions (0.1), 1st for most fouls (1.9) and 10th for clearances (0.5).

He wouldn’t stand a chance of playing for City, so Guardiola should try to cash in at the earliest available opportunity.
