‘Stop being taken for mugs’ – These Man City fans fume as talks stall for 14-goal ace

|

A few Manchester City fans have been left fuming on social media at a recent update in the Etihad Stadium outfit’s pursuit of Valencia CF winger Ferran Torres.

Man City club staff have been locked in talks with Valencia over a deal to bring Torres to the Premier League in the summer transfer window, but have failed to make any progress in the tug-of-war, according to Super Deporte.

The Citizens have been met with firm resistance from Valencia owner Peter Lim who has been set in his position to reject any offers that fall below his asking price, with City’s best bid to date believed to be under €20million (£18.2m).

City have offered below what Lim is intent to make as they are thought to be playing on Torres entering the final year of his contract at the La Liga outfit, knowing the 20-year-old will be a free agent in 12-months’ time.

But Pep Guardiola’s Etihad Stadium natives cannot land a quick deal as Lim considers Torres to be worth just under double what Manchester City have presented and will only accept a straight cash offer.

City had explored the potential of including academy graduate Yangel Herrera in any transfer of Torres only to see the idea rejected, though the 22-year-old may yet have a role to play in discussions as Valencia believe he can fit into their plans for the future.

Guardiola does not plan to recall Herrera to the senior fold next term following a successful loan spell with Granada, and will look to use the Venezuelan to lower the fee for Torres with Man City valuing him between €15m and €18m (£13.6m-£16.3m).

Real Betis, Getafe and Granada would all like to take Herrera on loan next season if his future remains up in the air, with Granada yet to trigger their prohibitive purchase option following a 36-game, two-goal season at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Carmenes.

Man City fans have been fuming on social media at the prospect of Herrera going out on loan again next season, feeling that their club must look to sell him this summer if Guardiola does not intend to recall him.

Other supporters have reacted to Super Deporte’s report of talks stalling with Valencia for Torres and the rejection of Herrera’s inclusion in the transfer by urging Man City to simply play what is needed to acquire Torres this summer.

The Valencia forward has been a mainstay of the La Liga outfit this term with 44 games played across all competitions, in which he has a goal involvement of 14 after firing home six times and assisting a further eight.

Valencia looking to receive a fee in the region of €40m has not sat well with all of the Etihad Stadium faithful, though, with some reluctant to see the asking price met.
