Another premier league season, and the defence of the title won last season, starts for City this weekend with them on the road.

City head to Newcastle United for an opener being shown live on the Box on Sunday afternoon from St James’ Park.

Newcastle are ‘assessing’ Siem de Jong, Cheick Tiote and Yoan Gouffran with the trio recovering from pre-season injuries.

Daryl Janmaat, Remy Cabella, Emmanuel Riviere and Jack Colback are all in line to make their debuts after summer arrivals.

City’s only confirmed absentee is Alvaro Negredo with a lack of fitness a concern with Sergio Aguero, fresh from his newly signed five-year deal, so he might have to wait a little longer to make his return.

Who will start in goal? Joe Hart or Willy Caballero? This is arguably the biggest decision that Manuel Pellegrini has to make with most of the other summer signings pretty much likely to get debuts.

It is a new season, so little counts that went before, but we are unbeaten in our first game since 2008 and against Newcastle are unbeaten in the last 16 games in all competitions, 15 of these coming the league.

City would be expected to start with a win, but will they?
