The Times confirm Erling Haaland’s release clause

|

Erling Harland was rumoured to have a release clause allowing foreign clubs to sign him for €180m in 2024, but Pep Guardiola insisted no agreement was in place. Spanish media were adamant this clause existed despite his denial and now national media in the UK have confirmed the clause is real.

90min claimed sources close to City acknowledged the clause and weren’t worried about it, but now Charlotte Duncker of The Times has revealed the clause will stand at €200m in two years’ time.

Real Madrid tried and failed to sign the Norwegian international over the summer but haven’t quelled their interest so they could return for him in the future.

Vital Man City pondered however if they have the finances to match his release clause, however, as they have curbed their spending dramatically in recent seasons – Los Blancos have spent a total of £130m in the last six transfer windows.

Barcelona don’t have the funds to sign Haaland either as the Catalans are mostly in the market for cheaper players due to their mismanaged finances. Paris Saint Germany have the resources to sign the 22-year-old but already have Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in attack.

Bayern Munich did try to sign Haaland over the summer but were rejected, so it remains to be seen if they’ll return for an inflated price.
