So that’s £2.7 million plus £8-10 million later for JoJo and £14 million for Edin and something like £200K per week off the wage bill.
We splashed £49 million and £8 million for Sterling and Delph and around £5million for Roberts.
We must have a ‘crack’ lined up. I can’t see us leaving ourselves so thin on the ground squad-wise.
The ‘kids’ are just that. Some of the recent acquisitions like Roberts, Denayer and Ian Nacho look promising but I can’t see them playing any sustained role with the first team for a while.
Even allowing for the likes of Fernando and Mangler upping their games in their second seasons, we are still short in areas.
We need a left-back, a right-back and another striker. Bony is quality and of course Kun is the best striker in the Premiership but is 2 enough ? In our title winning year 2011/12 we had Kun, Balotelli, Edin and Tevez. In 2013/2014 we had Kun, Edin, the Beast and occasional appearances from JoJo. Even with those 4 strikers we’ve had problems and been without strikers for periods of time through injuries.
If we go in with just 2 strikers to start then we are courting disaster.
Also, we’ve been saying it for a couple of years now but Zabs needs cover so he can have a rest every now and then to re-charge his batteries. On the other flank, there are major question marks about Kolarov’s defensive abilities against pace and/or quality wingers. Clichy has seen his best years pass him a while back.
Sterling and maybe Delph are worthy additions but we need more.
