Report: Midfielder has uncertain future at Man City, interest from La Liga but player is ‘unaffordable’

Yangel Herrera has an uncertain future at Manchester City this summer as he’s due to return from a loan spell away but isn’t guaranteed a place in the first-team.

Pep Guardiola may need a replacement for Fernandinho in the coming months, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll pick Herrera to succeed him or sign one of Denis Zakaria, Ismael Bennacer, Manuel Locatelli, Adrien Rabiot and Douglas Luiz.

The 23-year-old is a wanted man too, as Sport (h/t Sport Witness) say Granada would love to have him at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes for a third season, but Herrera is holding out hope of playing for Man City.

The Venezuelan international has made 79 appearances in all competitions for Granada since joining on a two-season loan in 2019, scoring 10 goals with five assists. He’s impressed in Spain, so much so that Granada are desperate to retain his services, but Herrera’s €20m buying option is ‘unaffordable’.

And the defensive midfielder doesn’t want to give up on his dream of playing for City either, so he may not be open to leaving permanently.
