Manchester City extended their winning run to 18 games after beating Arsenal 1-0 on Sunday and Fernandinho was one of many players who impressed, leading to praise from supporters on social media.
The 35-year-old rolled back the years with a fantastic performance in midfield, turning over possession more than any of his teammates and showing great athleticism to drive with the ball from deep on occasion.
Arsenal managed only one shot on target over the 90 minutes (WhoScored), which was in part down to Fernandinho’s work in nullifying attacks before they formed.

Against Arsenal, Fernandinho played for 90 minutes, had 64 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 84% of his 50 passes, created one chance, made four clearances, blocked one shot, made two interceptions, had two successful dribbles and made three tackles (WhoScored).
The Brazilian international has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal with two assists (Transfermarkt). He’s no longer commanding a reguar starting place as Rodri is ahead in the pecking order, but Fernandinho proved his worth on Sunday.
Despite turning 36 in May, there’s still life in the old legs yet and Fernandinho could be seeing out his final season at the Etihad Stadium in style.
