‘Definitely’ – Man City player hopes to finish career at Etihad months after new deal

Riyad Mahrez was briefly linked with a move away from Manchester City over the summer when Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea were showing a minor interest, but he committed his future to the club in the form of a three-year deal.

And in a recent interview with One Football, the 31-year-old says he hopes to end his career at Man City as he isn’t planning on hanging up his boots any time soon.

Mahrez said: “I definitely want to finish my career at City and play as long as I can. I think I can still play for a long time. We’ll see what the future holds after football. I don’t know. I’m still thinking. I love football so it’ll be difficult to come out of it.”

The Algerian international joined City from Leicester in 2018 and has gone on to make 198 appearances in all competitions, scoring 63 goals with 46 assists. Mahrez scored 24 goals with nine assists from 47 games last season, so his new deal was deserved.

But immediately after the contract extension, he’s been struggling for form. Mahrez has failed to score or make an assist from nine appearances across the board, resulting in him losing his starting place. He’ll need to work hard in training to get it back.
