Manchester City enjoyed a 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday and John Stones was one of many players who impressed.
The 26-year-old helped limit Breel Embolo to only one shot on target, and three of Gladbach’s attacking quartet ended up being substituted in the second half as they couldn’t find a way through City’s backline.
No Man City player had more touches, completed more passes, made more tackles and had more clearances than Stones, so he was deserving of the plaudits.

John Stones is probably the best and most complete CB in the world this season. What a turn around, everytime he's started we haven't looked like conceding chances.

Against Gladbach, Stones played for 90 minutes, had 129 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 96.6% of his 119 passes, made three tackles, had four clearances and had one successful dribble (WhoScored).
Gladbach only had one shot on target that came inside the box (WhoScored), so Stones did a great job of shielding Ederson. Alongside Ruben Dias, he kept his fifth consecutive clean sheet in the Champions League this season.
The England international has made 26 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals. He wasn’t a regular at the start of the season but has impressed since being given an opportunity in late-November and hasn’t looked back (Transfermarkt).
Stones was outstanding against Gladbach and will hope to shut out Everton in the FA Cup on Saturday.
