‘Awesome’ – Some fans say ‘unreal’ Man City man has ‘upped his game’ in recent weeks

Manchester City beat Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 on Tuesday evening and Riyad Mahrez was one of many players who impressed. The Sky Blues breezed into the quarter-finals of the Champions League and Mahrez did everything but score on the night.

No player had more shots on targets, only one player created more chances, no player made more successful dribbles, only one player whipped in more crosses and no player made more tackles than the 30-year-old.

Against Gladbach, Mahrez played for 90 minutes, had 65 touches, completed 74.4% of his 39 passes, created two chances and grabbed one assist, had five shots with 40% hitting the target, whipped in five crosses, made three tackles and had three successful dribbles (WhoScored).

The Algerian international has made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and supplying six assists. He’s been a regular in the starting lineup since the turn of the year and has had a hand in seven goals in his last eight outings across the board (Transfermarkt).

Mahrez deserved a goal on Tuesday, so he’ll hope to deliver in Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Everton.
