Manchester City enjoyed a 5-2 win over Southampton on Wednesday and Phil Foden was one of many players praised by supporters for his performance at the Etihad Stadium. The 20-year-old aged two assists on the night and nearly scored for his troubles but for a good save from Alex McCarthy.

Foden’s first assist came minutes before the hour mark and saw him pick out  Riyad Mahrez from the right-wing who evaded challenges and fired home inside the box. His second assist was minutes later and saw him collect the ball from Kyle Walker and lay the ball on for Kevin De Bruyne to get into the box and finishd past McCarthy.

Against Southampton, Foden played for 90 minutes, had 59 touches, completed 86.1% of his 36 passes, created three chances, had four shots with 75% hitting the target, whipped in one cross, made one tackle, had four successful dribbles and won one freekick (WhoScored).

The England international has made 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and supplying eight assists (Transfermarkt). He’s had a hand in five goals in his last six Premier League games and should start in City’s next game as reward for Wednesday’s performance.
