Man City in talks with agent over deal for Mendes

|

Manchester City were linked with Nicolas Tagliafico, Alex Sandro, Nuno Mendes, David Alaba, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Robin Gosens when Benjamin Mendy had an uncertain future this summer, but they made a U-turn on Mendy and opted to keep him.

With the 27-year-old being suspended after getting charged, however, it appears City are back in the hunt for Mendes. Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports and the Guardian says City are battling Paris Saint-Germain for the 19-year-old and would have to pay Sporting €40m (£34.3m) for his signature.

Mendes rose through the youth ranks to Sporting’s first-team in 2019/20 and has gone on to make 17 appearances for the U23s and 47 appearances for the first-team. The Portuguese international looks to have a bright future as he’s long been commanding a starting place at a young age, but it remains to be seen if City can beat out PSG’s interest.

Pep Guardiola hasn’t decided who will be his left-back for the season. He’s used Oleksandr Zinchenko, Joao Cancelo and the now-suspended Mendy, so things are up in the air. Mendes could be a good option if the Sky Blues are willing to match his asking price.
