Man City won’t re-sign 23 y/o despite being linked with £20.3m move [Opinion]

Manchester City sold Pedro Porro to Sporting over the summer after his successful loan spell at the José Alvalade Stadium, but Portuguese outlet Record (h/t Sport Witness) are claiming that Pep Guardiola might look to bring the 23-year-old to the Etihad Stadium.

Porro initially joined City from Girona in 2019, setting the Sky Blues back around €12m (£10.6m), but he failed to make an appearance. The Spanish international instead was loaned out to Real Valladolid (15 appearances in 2019/20) and Sporting (72 appearances in 2020/21 and 2021/22) before turning the move permanent with the latter.

Porro impressed in Portugal and was linked with a move to Real Madrid before joining Sporting, so he’s rated highly among many clubs in Europe. City don’t have a need for the right-back, however, as Pep Guardiola has Kyle Walker, Joao Cancelo and Rico Lewis at his disposal.

The 23-year-old would cost €23m (£20.3m) for City to bring him back to Manchester too, so that’s nearly £15m more than they sold him for. Unless Guardiola was planning to axe one of his existing options, it doesn’t make sense for City to make a move.
