Manchester City are expected to sign a left-back in the summer transfer window as Benjamin Mendy could be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium. Oleksandr Zinchenko also has an uncertain future, but Pep Guardiola has preferred the 24-year-old in defence of late.

City have shown an interest in Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico, Juventus’ Alex Sandro, Ben Chilwell, Everton’s Lucas Digne and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rayan Ait-Nouri, but Diario AS say the Sky Blues have made an offer to sign David Alaba.

After rejecting a contract extension at Bayern Munich, Alaba will depart the Allianz Arena this summer and has already attracted a lot of interest from European giants. AS say Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen.

Alaba has made 410 appearances in all competitions since joining Bayern from Austria Wien in 2008, scoring 33 goals with 49 assists. The Austrian international is one of the best defenders in Europe and Man City might have an edge in negotiations from Alaba’s relationship with Guardiola.

The 28-year-old called the City manager “one of the best coaches” and Guardiola has called Alaba an “unbelievable talent” in the past, so the pair could well renew acquaintances. AS say City have offered a pre-contract worth £12.37m-a-year, so time will tell.
