Report: Man City to ‘make room’ for £34.1m man with ‘sale’ of £18m-rated 24 y/o

Manchester City are expected to strengthen at left-back this summer by signing one of Nuno Mendes, Nicolas Tagliafico, David Alaba and Gabriel Gudmundsson, but TuttoMercatoWeb say Robin Gosens is still on their radar.

The Sky Blues ‘could make room’ for the 26-year-old with the ‘sale’ of £18m-rated Oleksandr Zinchenko, but isn’t it more likely that they’d ship the out-of-form and out-of-favour Benjamin Mendy than the regularly-playing 24-year-old?

Gosens joined Atalanta BC in 2017 and has gone on to make 139 appearances in all competitions, scoring 25 goals and supplying 19 assists (Transfermarkt). He’s a regular at the Stadio di Bergamo and has an asking price of €40m (£34.1m), so City could land his signature for less than they paid for Mendy (£52m), Kyle Walker (£45m) and Joao Cancelo (£60m).

TMW believe Zinchenko is primed for the chop, but Mendy is the one with an uncertain future. He’s struggled for form, fitness and playing time this season while Zinchenko has been reliable at left-back, nailing down a regular spot in the team on merit.

City do want to strengthen at left-back, but it’s hard to see Zinchenko being offloaded to make space.
