Most fouls won, 3rd-most chances created – Man City player made impact against USA [Opinion]

England disappointingly drew 0-0 with USA on Friday evening, but Jack Grealish is one of a few players that can be proud of his display at Al Bayt Stadium.

The 27-year-old failed to start a second consecutive World Cup group game but made a big impact from the bench to give Gareth Southgate a selection headache ahead of Tuesday’s meeting with Wales.

Grealish was introduced in the 67th minute for Raheem Sterling and ended the game with only two players having created more chances than him. The England international won the most fouls and even turned over the ball once, so he sent a message to Southgate that he should be starting.

BBC Sport viewers gave Grealish a player rating of 5.57/10 – the second-highest in the England team. Jacob Steinberg of the Guardian gave the 27-year-old a player rating of 7/10. Matt Law of the Telegraph gave him a player rating of 6/10. Liam Wood of the Manchester Evening News gave a player rating of 6/10.

Against USA, Grealish played for 23 minutes, had 19 touches, completed 75% of his 12 passes, created one chance, made one interception and won four freekicks. After scoring off the bench against Iran and impressing off the bench against USA, might Jack get a chance from the off against Wales?
