Pep Guardiola told to drop ‘struggling’ Man City player against Wolves

Jack Grealish could lose his starting place for Manchester City when they lock horns with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon after underperforming in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund. Paul Merson doesn’t believe the out-of-form playmaker is part of City’s best front three and says he’d leave him out of the side if given the choice.

He wrote for Sportskeeda: “Jack Grealish is really struggling at the moment. In terms of Manchester City’s best front three, I’d like to see the new kid Julian Alvarez play out wide, with Phil Foden and Erling Haaland completing the rest of the attack.”

Grealish is without a goal or assist in five games across the board this season and put in a particularly poor showing in midweek. He failed to register a shot on target, failed to register an accurate cross and failed to make a successful dribble, so Pep Guardiola brought him off before the hour mark.

City were losing at the time of his substitution and won the game in his absence, so he can’t be feeling good about how the season is going. After just three goals and three assists from 26 Premier League games in 2021/22, Grealish was expected to kick on this campaign, but it appears he’s declined further.
