Man City tipped to sign ‘bright’ left-back with more goals and assists than Jack Grealish

Benjamin Mendy was suspended by Manchester City in August 2021 after being charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault, so he’s unlikely to play for the Sky Blues again.

Pep Guardiola has used Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back while Joao Cancelo, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake can operate there in a makeshift role, but it’s had varying degrees of success, so Bacary Sagna believes City should strengthen that area this summer.

City have been linked with Nicolas Tagliafico, Nuno Tavares, Alex Sandro, Abner Vinicius, Nuno Mendes, David Alaba, Nicolas Fernandez Marcau, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Robin Gosens in the past 12 months, but Sagna believes AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez would be ideal  – a player they tried to sign before he committed his future to the Rossoneri.

He told The Sun: “Maybe left-back if I had to cover one position. Left-back they don’t have a natural left-footer, so that would be the one position. I like Theo Hernandez; he’s playing really well and has potential. He has a bright future.”

Hernandez has made 121 appearances in all competitions for Milan, scoring 20 goals with 23 assists. The French international is a regular under Stefano Pioli this season with 31 Serie A appearances, scoring (5) and assisting (6) more goals than Jack Grealish (3 goals, 3 assists), so he would improve the squad.

But with Hernandez signing a four-year deal in February, it’s unlikely he’d be sold.

Hernandez is going nowhere…he has no competition for his position at milan…and they’re the team that helped him break into the national team…plus the maldini factor
