Report: Man City ‘offering higher wages’ to beat Chelsea to 28 y/o’s signature

Sergio Aguero has been officially confirmed as a Barcelona player, meaning Manchester City are left with only Gabriel Jesus in attack, but the Sky Blues are stepping up their pursuit for a replacement.

Kylian Mbappe, Danny Ings, Patson Daka, Harry Kane, Darwin Nunez, Edin Dzeko, Romelu Lukaku, Ali Akman, Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez and Arek Milik are on City’s shortlist, but Dean Jones of Eurosport says they’re actively pursuing Lukaku and are ‘offering higher wages’ than Chelsea to beat them to his signature.

The 28-year-old joined Inter Milan from Manchester United in 2019 and has gone on to make 95 appearances in all competitions, scoring 64 goals with 16 assists.

Lukaku won the Serie A title with Inter in 2020/21, but he may be available this summer because his club are in financial difficulty. The Nerazzurri may need to sell valuable assets, so City are trying to capitalise on the situation.

That being said, the Belgian international has three more years on his contract at the San Siro and hasn’t shown any desire to leave. Whether he’d be willing to join the rival of his former club is unknown too, so Lukaku might not be an attainable target.
