Club’s financial situation boosts Man City’s hopes of landing 19-goal forward [Opinion]

Sergio Aguero is leaving Manchester City this summer and Kylian Mbappe, Danny Ings, Patson Daka, Harry Kane, Darwin Nunez, Edin Dzeko, Romelu Lukaku, Ali Akman, Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez and Arek Milik have been linked as potential replacements, but 90min noted days ago that Martinez is a genuine target.

The 23-year-old is coming off the back of his most prolific campaign at Inter Milan and may be available for €70m (£60.3m), but the Nerazzurri would prefer to keep Martinez at the San Siro. Unfortunately, their spiralling financial situation may require them to sell valuable assets when the transfer window opens, so City might have a chance of landing his signature.

Martinez joined Inter from Racing in 2018 and has gone on to make 132 appearances in all competitions, scoring 49 goals with 20 assists. The Argentine international, who boasts 10 goals in 19 games for his country, bagged 19 goals and 11 assists across the board this campaign – the best seasonal return of his career.

It’s understandable why City would be keen and Inter’s situation certainly improved their hopes of getting Martinez, but time will tell if they make a move.
